Miscellaneous Information
Absences and Tardiness:
Please notify the school when your child is absent by written note or phone call. Encourage good attendance… most learning cannot be replaced by a worksheet. Work to be made up will be sent home. Please HELP your child with this to make sure it is returned promptly for credit (one day for each day absent). TARDY POLICY-Students arriving after 8:00am must go to the office for a tardy pass. An excused tardy requires a written note from a parent. After the third tardy of each quarter, lunch detention will need to be served.
Contacting the Teacher:
The best way to reach me is by e-mail. I check it several times each day. My e-mail address is [email protected]. You can also call the school at 854-7280, and I will return your call as soon as possible.
Communication:
Please check the green folder every day. This is our home to school communication. I will put important notes, homework and your child’s finished work in it each day. You may send notes back to school in that folder, as I check them daily. Also in the folder there will be a monthly calendar. Check the calendar daily for behavior reports and to initial 20 minute nightly reading. **Please keep this calendar in the folder at all times.
Newsletters:
Our first grade newsletter comes home every Monday. This will have important classroom information on it, spelling words, and weekly sight words to read. Mrs. Helart will send her monthly school newsletter on the last Wednesday of each month. Please read these, as they have important information about activities going on in our school.
Lunch:
It is extremely important that if your child is going to eat breakfast or hot lunch at school that you put money down on their account. The cafeteria will send you a courtesy account notice when you are low on your account, but it is the parent’s responsibility to stay updated on this. If your child does not have money on their account, your child will be offered peanut butter/ crackers or cheese/crackers instead of a meal. Please keep your child’s account updated.
Snacks and Water Bottles:
You are encouraged to send a healthy snack for your child to eat during morning recess. Due to summer heat, a cold water bottle to keep in the room is a must!
Birthdays:
Birthday treats are welcome. We are recommending a healthy birthday treat that is easy; as birthday treats are taken outside at snack time. Treats must be STORE BOUGHT ITEMS ONLY!!! Please let me know of ideas in advance. Invitations to parties may be passed out in class ONLY if everyone is included.
Star of the Week:
Each child will have a chance to be “Star of the Week” for one full week
during the school year. I will be the first “Star of the Week,” the children will
star according to alphabetical order. On the Wednesday preceding your
child’s turn as “Star of the Week,” your child will be given a reminder notice,
a “Star of the Week” bag, and an “All About Me” poster to complete. Please
return the poster and bag by Monday. Also, please send in a few photos to be
displayed on the “Star of the Week” bulletin board. These photos will be
returned at the end of the week.
Wish List:
I realize that school supplies each year are necessary and costly. However, there are many things that we use each day in the classroom that are not provided by the district. Below is a list of things that we could use if you would like to donate:
Ziploc baggies, glue sticks, Expo markers, antibacterial wipes/Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, stickers, Treasure Box prizes- plastic jewelry, cool pencils or pens, small toy cars or animals, birthday party favors, etc. Thank You!
